You have to go around and present the service to companies. Primarily get your name around. Advertisement may be worth it in the long run. But also recognize that it is hard to start a service like this on your own these days.

Depending on your age and whether you are supporting anyone, be careful doing this fulltime. I freelance web development for a living, but I’m 21 with no kids/wife so I can afford some slow times.

And I have been developing for a few years. Of course, things are getting easier now with CMS’s and tutorials galore, but it’s still not something you can master within a few weeks.

When I was 17, I started working in a print shop. I became supervisor and customers were flocking in, and I made alot of relationships with them. I moved to another print shop, and most of my customers followed me to the new one. I realized I had so much work outside of work (graphic design, web design, etc..) that I figured I could do my own thing full time. So I made the leap effortlessly. Once I told my clients I quit that second print shop and was doing my own thing, I was working 70 hours my first week. Its all about your contacts.

Build your contacts first. If you don’t have any clients or contacts now, you’re not ready to go just yet. But tell everyone you know of your new gig. Word travels fast. I’ve never advertised, I rely on word of mouth alone.
